Snow School, the English ski school in Courchevel, has been operating since 2010 and covers a range of ski resorts in the area. The concept came out of an awareness that many British visitors to the resort wanted skiing lessons with a decidedly English touch. At that time, most Courchevel ski schools followed the French method of large classes lead by a single instructor and everyone following, just trying to keep up. The instruction was usually in French, with a smattering of English thrown in. As expected, most English students weren’t satisfied with this type of ski school in Courchevel.
Paul Miller is an avid British skier and founder of the Snow School. He spent his childhood competing in UK competitions, until he did his first season in 2003, in Les Trois Vallées. He had always intended to take his ski instructor qualifications and saw straight away that the local Courchevel ski schools weren’t delivering what UK visitors needed and expected.
At the Ski School, classes are small, with just 4 students in the low season, and the tuition is friendly. Our instructors are British or native English-speaking, with years of on-mountain teaching experience and resort know-how. This mix of small class sizes and good communication means you’ll never be left in the dark concerning your progress through the week. Our instructors start by explaining what you’ll learn, then demonstrating each technique. Once you’ve tried the technique too, they give you helpful feedback that you can understand.
Most importantly, skiing is meant to be fun, and our classes are both enjoyable and social. Small groups mean you get to know your instructor and classmates properly and will feel comfortable around them. It’s part of Paul’s philosophy that relaxed and happy students learn to ski better and more quickly.
