Saint Martin De Belleville Ski Resort

This is a traditional French alp village, located at the entrance to the Belleville Valley. It’s easy to see why this resort is something of a well-kept secret. While it doesn’t have the cachet or glamour that’s associated with the larger resorts of Courchevel or Meribel, it offers a genuine village experience combined with great skiing, especially for beginners. Visitors think Saint Martin de Bellville is all the better for being less commercial and quieter and we couldn’t agree more.

Saint Martin, as it’s typically known, is popular with families and others looking for a quieter, more relaxing experience. The further bonus is, the lower costs associated with holidaying here compared to larger resorts.  Saint Martin also offers access to the rest of the Three Valleys ski areas. A ridge separates Meribel from St Martin. In less than 20 minutes you can be up there, surveying the scale of the skiing on offer.

If all this makes Saint Martin de Belleville sound tiny in ski terms it’s not. There are still 81 runs covering 160km of pistes. More than 50% of runs are beginner or intermediate with skiing going up to about 3200 metres.  It’s relatively low altitude of 1450 metres means snow through the season can’t be guaranteed. However an army of 250+ snow canons are in place if needed. We think it’s one of the Three Valleys best options for intermediates and beginners around mid-season: Perfect for a Christmas ski break.

The mantra of small village – great access to the Three Valleys is a winning combination but it’s not a resort for those looking for a varied night life or ski in ski out accommodation. The Three Valleys has better options for that. However for those looking for a more leisurely holiday and a taste of how French ski resorts used to be, this is our favourite option.

For beginners the nursery slopes in Saint Martin should suffice for a week’s holiday. There are no direct connections to additional green runs from Saint Martin. The neighbouring resort of Les Menuires has some of the best skiing in the whole of the Three Valleys area for intermediates.

For lessons the Snow School usually meets clients outside the bubble one lift and lessons will include exploring the best the Three Valleys has to offer.
